Rotation for screens is something that is becoming much more common for the standard 4:3 monitors. Widescreen monitors tend to not include the feature because the width of the screen allows for two full windows to be shown side by side. Dell has included the ability to rotate the screen 90 degrees to the right.
The actual video screen will not automatically rotate to fit the screen in the rotated position. In order for the picture to be adjusted, the video card driver for the computer must have some form of software rotation. This can be problematic depending upon the video card drivers ability to handle the resolution adjustments.
Another problem with rotating the screen has to do with the monitor stand. Since the screen is so wide, it is necessary for the monitor stand to be set close to the highest setting possible. If the stand is not set this way, it is not possible to rotate the screen fully without reaching around and pulling the stand up which can be difficult.
The main reason for the inclusion of the rotating screen most likely has to do with accessing the connectors on the back of the panel. By rotating the screen 90 degrees, the cable connectors become easily accessed from the left side of the screen rather than from below.
