Performance

The screen was tested using both the analog and video connectors and put through a variety of functions including DVD playback, general internet usage, word processing and gaming. Testing was done at native resolutions and at lower standard resolutions to see how the extrapolation functioned.

One of the concerns with large screens tends to be the response times. Most large screens have lower response times that induce a ghosting or blurring of the image during fast motion. During video playback and 3D gaming, the 2005FPW performed exceptionally well. This is no surprise given the design of the Philips panel.

Color rendition was very accurate with bright colors and very little bleed in the colors. The lower right and left corners of the screen tended to have some light bleed during particularly dark screens though.

One area that might be of concern for those is the extrapolation when a 4:3 aspect ratio is used and is stretched to fill the entire screen. This causes a squished effect on images that may get distracting. Thankfully the scaling can be adjusted to remove the horizontal stretching if that is desired.

Gaming can be problematic with the 2005FPW. While the screen works exceptionally well with motion, a number of games did not like the resolution and would refuse to run in any mode higher than 1152x864 even though the monitor could handle the 1280x960 or 1280x1024 resolutions just fine. This is something game developers should take note of.
