While LCD monitors are much smaller than the traditional CRT monitors, early models tended to have a large bezel surrounding the actual LCD panel. Thanks to advancements, the Samsung SyncMaster 172X has a very narrow front bezel for a 17" LCD monitor. This makes the 172X very attractive to those who would want to run multiple monitors off their computer system. In fact, it is possible to find two of the models for about the same cost as some high end 19" monitors.
Styling wise, the SyncMaster 172X goes with a very modern sleek look. The bezel and base feature a silver plastic design with accent colors in a dark gray. This matches well with the current trend of silvers and grays being used for most computer systems and peripherals.
Overall, the construction of the SyncMaster 172X is very sturdy. The panel is much lighter than a traditional CRT monitor, but the base contains much of the weight that helps hold the monitor in place very well.
One item to note when looking at the front of the monitor is that the base of the 172X does come out several inched in front of the bottom of the panel. This may get in the way of peripheral devices or keyboards for some users.
