Most LCD monitors use external power adapters, so it is no surprise to see one with the SyncMaster 172X. It would be nice to start seeing more manufacturers start integrating the necessary electronics into the actual panel displays themselves. The tangle of cords and power bricks necessary for a personal computer can get quite annoying.
The SyncMaster 172X is compatible with both analog and digital connections. This allows for the greatest level of flexibility. In fact, the monitor can be hooked up to two computers, one via digital and the other via analog. It is good to see Samsung include both sets of cables as the DVI monitor cables can be quite expensive to purchase separately.
The wall mount plate for the monitor is very small and has limited use. It will provide a simple installation to allow the 172X be placed on a flat wall surface. Those looking to have the monitor installed on a wall may want to look at something that allows for greater flexibility in the installation.
