06/19/06 - Alienware made a name for itself producing PC gaming computer systems, but they have since expanded out into more traditional computer systems. Their ALX line of computers is still very squarely geared towards the PC gamer who has a lot of disposable income. For that they can get a top of the line system with premium support and service.
The Aurora ALX can come equipped with either the AMD Athlon 64 X2 series of dual core processors or the Athlon FX processors for those who need the fastest single core processing available. The system now uses the socket AM2 chips and uses faster PC2-6400 DDR2 memory to better match up with the processor.
Storage is available in a wide range of options, but the top of the line configuration uses two 750GB Serial ATA 300 hard drives to create a near 1.5 terabyte of high performance storage in a RAID 0 configuration. In addition to this, the system comes equipped with a 16x DVD+/-RW dual layer DVD burner with Lightscribe.
The most impressive feature though is the graphics. The system comes with two NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 dual processor graphics cards in SLI. This enables four total graphics cores on the system for an incredible amount of 3D processing power. They also include a Dell UltraSharp 24” wide screen LCD monitor.
If there is one area that Alienware could improve the Aurora ALX is the ability to have more customized case colors and designs.
