Guide Review - Falcon Northwest Mach V SLI

6/20/06 – Falcon Northwest is one of the oldest provider of performance gaming desktop PCs in the market, and their experience shows in their flagship Mach V. There isn't a lot of major change from the previous version, but it now has support for dual core processors and updated components.

Like previous versions of the Mach V, it is powered by the Athlon 64 FX series of chips but it has been bumped up to the dual core FX-62. Options are also available for less expensive AMD processors or even Intel processor. It is matched up with 2GB of Corsair XMS PC2-8500 DDR2 to run through all applications smoothly.

Storage is one area where the Mach V is a bit of a disappointment. While most performance systems offer the latest and greatest hard drives, Falcon Northwest is instead using somewhat smaller 400GB Seagate SATA drives. They are in a RAID 0 array to give them high performance, but the capacity is lower than other systems. A Sony DRU-820A 16x DVD+/-RW dual layer burner handles the optical storage.

Graphics wise the Mach V keeps up to date using two GeForce 7950 GX2 graphics cards in an SLI configuration. This provides the system with four total graphics processors to give the system some outstanding 3D gaming performance at high resolutions and filtering.

Of course the downside to all of this is the price. The Mach V is one of the more expensive performance systems on the market, but Falcon Northwest backs this up with very strong service and support.
