Guide Review - iBUYPOWER Gamer Supreme 928i Performance Gaming Desktop PC
Jun 10 2009 - Probably the most amazing thing about the iBUYPOWER Gamer Supreme 928i is its price tag. At just $1300, this system packs some incredible performance than many companies are charging hundreds of dollars more for equivalent features. This alone will make many who want a top performance gaming rig to consider this.
The system is based around the Intel Core i7 920 quad core processor. While this is the lowest of the Core i7 processors, it still provides some outstanding performance for PC gaming. The 6GB of PC3-10600 DDR memory is also welcome both for the larger amount of memory compared to many others providing either 3 or 4GB but also because it is a faster 1333MHz speed that allows for potential overclocking. Those looking to overclock will want to upgrade the cooling solution though as it does use the stock Intel cooling.
Where the Gamer Supreme 928i really sets itself apart is in the graphics. It comes equipped with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 graphics card with 1GB of memory. This is still currently the fastest single core graphics card available on the market that easily allows the system to play games up to 1920x1200 and in many cases 2560x1600. Users might want to be aware that the motherboards supplied with the system can vary with some able to support a second graphics card and others not. So don't assume you can do SLI.
Storage is a bit above average for a low cost performance system. The one terabyte drive provides it with plenty of space for applications and data. The dual layer DVD burner is also typical of desktops these days. It would have been nice to see a multiformat flash card reader but it is understandable that many gamers may not need this feature.
All in all, the Gamer Supreme 928i is a tough value to beat for those looking at high performance gaming without spending thousands.
