6/21/05 - Many may not think of Gateway and performance computers. They have never really setup a separate product line specifically targeting PC gamers, but that doesn't mean they don't have products that can meet these needs. The Gateway 9310XL is their highest end desktop computer and it has some impressive features for the price.
The 9310XL uses the Intel Pentium 4 640 processor. While this isn't the fastest processor, it provides plenty of power for productivity, multimedia or gaming. It is matched up with 1GB of PC2-4200 DDR2 memory that allows it to run smoothly even in memory intensive applications.
Storage is exceptional for the 9310XL. Gateway has decided to put together two 250GB Serial ATA hard drives to give the system 500GB fo total storage. This is great for those looking to do things such as desktop video that takes up a lot of space. Optical storage is handled by a 16x DVD+/-RW burner and a secondary 16x DVD-ROM drive.
Graphics are also quite amazing for the 9310XL. While most companies are offering either 6600GT or 6800GT graphics cards, but Gateway has decided to include the top of the line GeForce 6800 Ultra card. This allows the system to play 3D games at high resolutions even with anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering. They even include a 17” LCD monitor with the package.
Overall, it is hard to find much fault with the Gateway 9310XL. It provides a great all around package for those looking for a high performance system.
