Guide Review - Hypersonic Sonic Boom ATS Lockdown Performance Gaming Desktop PC
12/15/08 - The Sonic Boom ATS Lockdown is Hypersonic's less expensive gaming desktop that is based around the new Intel Core i7 desktop processor. It shared most of the same base features as the more expensive Ramjet version, but looks to make things a bit more affordable. To do this, some of the parts inside the system are a bit below what one might expect in a performance system.
For example, Hypersonic outfits the base package with a relatively small 250GB hard drive that is smaller than what is included in most budget desktops. It also equips the system with an older generation GeForce 9800 GT 512MB graphics card. Now, both of these are acceptable solutions for a gaming system but they are below what one might expect from such a system. Thankfully Hypersonic allows for a large number of customization options including the ability to install up to four hard drives.
Customization can be both a good thing and a bad thing. It is good because it allows for more choices from the consumer in how they want their system to perform and look. The downside to this is that many upgrade generally cost consumers more than what they should really cost. Hypersonic's base system price and upgrades are actually quite competitive making it one of the more affordable performance systems. Of course, there are a few upgrades that are expensive such as the case color painting.
Overall, the Hypersonic Sonic Boom ATS Lockdown is one of the better overall values for someone looking to get a performance gaming desktop system built for them rather than building one for themselves.
