Guide Review - Voodoo PC Rage F:50

6/30/04 - Voodoo is a well known name for custom built pretige computers that offer a lot of performance and style. The Rage F:50 is a performance desktop with a single goal, completely silent operation. To do this, Voodoo has taken specially designed cooling solutions and case to remove all fans from the system.

Powering the Rage F:50 is the AMD Athlon64 3200+ processor. This isn't the fastest of Athlon64 processors, but it does provide more than enough performance for today's computing tasks and games. It is only matched up with 512MB of PC3200 DDR memory. Most performance desktops come standard with 1GB of RAM.

Storage on the system is well below average for the performance segment. The base system comes equipped only with a single 80GB Hitachi hard drive and a Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM drive. A higher performance drive and CD/DVD burner standard would be nice.

Graphics are handled by an NVIDIA GeForceFX 5950 Ultra. This was the top of the line card from NVIDIA and should not have any problems with current and future DirectX 9 and OpenGL games.

While the Rage F:50 does achieve its goal of being a silent system, it fails in a number of other areas. Its large size (nearly double a standard tower) makes it hard to fit on a desktop. The price is also very high for the level of components inside. This system is best suited for those that really want a silent computing environment.
