9/25/06 – HP was one of the first major companies to use AMD processors in their product lines. For the Pavilion s7600e small form factor systems, they have chosen to use the AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ mobile processor. This gives it a good mix of performance, low power usage and low heat generation but it falls behind the more recent Core 2 Duo mobile products, it is close to the more common Core Duo. This is matched up with 1GB of PC205299 DDR2.
Storage is a step up from most small form factor systems thanks to the desktop class drive in the Pavilion s7600e. Included is a 200GB SATA hard drive that should provide plenty of storage for the average user. A 16x dual layer DVD burner with LightScribe support is included for playing or recording CDs and DVDs.
Like most small form factor systems, the Pavilion s7600e relies on an integrated graphics processor. The GeForce 6150 does perform better than the Intel GMA processor for 3D graphics but it still lacks the performance of dedicated 3D cards. There is no internal space for such a card to be installed.
While the Pavilion s7600e is a fairly small system, it sits between the larger more expandable cube designs and the smaller mini PC designs. Sure, HP offers a wide range of customization options when the system is purchased, but they fail to make the system upgradeable by the user after the purchase.
