11/6/06 ABS is one of the companies that really focuses on building computers for PC gamers. In this respect, the focus on the graphics capabilities of the Mayhem Z2 is not surprising. In fact, the Radeon Mobility X1600 graphics is very capable of playing today's 3D games and driving the high resolution LCD panel.
The Mayhem Z2 is powered by the older Intel Core Duo processor line. While the perform is still comparable to the new Core 2 Duo models, it lacks the 64-bit software support for the upcoming Windows Vista OS and is a bit behind in terms of power usage. It does perform well though with the including 1GB of PC2-5300 DDR2 memory that lets is run through most applications without problems.
Storage is average for the Mayhem Z2 system. The 80GB 5400rpm hard drive provides a good amount of storage space and performance but it isn't as high as similarly priced systems. The standard DVD+/-RW dual layer DVD burner allows it to record and playback both DVD and CD media.
Since the system is really geared towards those looking at 3D graphics, the company also fails to include a software package. Its possible to add on productivity or security software but it adds to the overall cost of the notebook.
In the end, the ABS Mayhem Z2 is best suited for those looking for a system with a strong 3D graphics processor and high resolution display for applications such as gaming. Beyond this, the system tends to fall behind what is available from other companies.
