11/6/06 Acer's previous thin and light Ferrari notebook was powered by a single core AMD Turion processor. The new 5000 series has been updated to use the new dual core Turion 64 X2 TL-60 processor. This gives a significant performance upgrade to the system that keeps pace with the new Core architecture. Along with this, Acer provides 2GB of PC2-5400 DDR2 memory to let the system power through applications without problems.
Storage on the Ferrari 5005WLMi is outstanding. Acer has included the new top of the line 160GB hard drive to provide plenty of storage space for applications and data. It also comes equipped with an 8x DVD+/-RW dual layer burner for reading and recording music, movie or data CDs and DVDs.
While most notebooks are moving towards integrated graphics, the Ferrari 5005WLMi comes with a high end Radeon Mobility X1600 graphics processor with 256MB of memory. This lets the system even power through 3D hungry applications such as PC gaming. The 15.4 wide screen LCD provides a very detailed 1680x1050 resolution with great clarity. And if you do want to use an external monitor or even an HDTV, the system includes an HDMI connector.
Even with its stylish carbon fiber case design and excellent performance, the Acer Ferrari still has a few distractions. Acer doesn't include any productivity software with the system. In addition, the price tag is much highly than what the average consumer is likely willing to spend.
