5/25/04 - Fujitsu is one of the lesser known notebook manufacturers in the US. In fact, they are better known for their hard drives, particularly the notebook drives. Their LifeBook S7010D is their latest thin and light model.
Heading up the new S7010D model is the new Intel Pentium M 1.7GHz processor. This processor has increased cache and bus speeds to improve performance to be a top in class mobile processor. Matched to this is 512MB of PC2700 DDR memory that should allow it to run through applications with ease.
Storage on the unit is a bit better than average. The standard hard drive is the 60GB unit. Optical storage is handled through a modular drive bay that comes standard with a 24x CD-RW combo drive.
Graphics are a bit of a let down with the S7010D. The 14.1" XGA screen is on the smaller side for most of the new thin and light systems. The problem is the match with the Intel Extreme integrated graphics. This integrated solution limits the usage of many 3D applications. Most competing units are going with dedicated graphics processors.
Connectivity is very impressive on the S7010D though. In particular, the Atheros 802.11a+b/g allows the unit to use all the current standards for 802.11 Wireless. It also can use the 802.11a Wireless at the same time as a b or g network.
Thanks in part to its smaller LCD screen, the LifeBook S7010D is also one of the smaller and lighter thin and light notebooks available. This can be a big plus for business travellers.
