5/25/05 – It is surprisingly that so long after the merger of HP and Compaq, HP continues to differentiate the consumer computer systems. The Presario V4020us is the latest thin and light notebook to be sold under the old Compaq brand name.
The Presario V4020us is powered by a fairly low end Pentium M 715A (1.5GHz) processor. This is sufficient for most computing tasks but may lack some of the power for intensive applications such as desktop video. It is matched up with 512MB of PC2700 DDR memory that is standard for the industry.
One area where the Presario V4020us shines is in storage. It comes with a very large 100GB hard drive. There is a trade off for this space in a slower rotational speed that decreases the drives performance. It also ships with a DVD+/-RW burner to let users burn movie, music or data DVDs and CDs. A 6-in-1 media reader allows flash cards from digital peripherals to be copied onto the computer.
The 15.4” wide screen LCD is pretty much standard for thin and light notebooks now. As is the integrated graphics. At least the V4020us uses the new Intel GMA 900 graphics accelerated that offers a bit of performance over the previous Extreme 2 graphics.
What really sets the HP computers apart from most systems is the software. The bundle included with the Presario V4020us is very complete and covers most of the applications that a user might require.
