Guide Review - HP Pavilion dv5190us
5/24/06 HP's Pavilion dv5190us is more than just a thin and light notebook, but also a multimedia PC as well. The system comes with the Windows XP MCE 2005 operating system. Also included with the system is an analog TV tuner ExpressCard/54 and media center remote. This allows the notebook to be used to record and watch over the air TV. It would be nice to see HP build in the TV tuner, but at least they include the hardware with the system.
The Pavilion dv5190us is no slouch in other aspects either. It uses the new Intel Core Duo T2400 processor for strong performance even when multitasking while being conservative with power consumption. The system also comes with a full gigabyte of fast PC2-5400 DDR2 memory that lets it run smoothly in most all applications.
Storage is quite strong with a fast 100GB hard drive that users will want with the ability to record and playback TV shows and still have room for programs and files. In addition, the system includes a 8x DVD dual layer burner that supports Lightscribe for burning labels directly to compatible media.
Of course, a multimedia notebook also has to have a strong graphics system. The 15.4 wide LCD panel provides a large screen to watch. HP continues their trend for performance by including an NVIDIA GeForce 7400 Go dedicated graphics processor. While not the fastest available, it lets the system handle 3D appl including games.
