Guide Review - Fujitsu LifeBook S6231

11/17/04 - Fujitsu is one of the few companies that is not following the trend of wide screen LCD displays for the thin and light notebooks. The LifeBook S6231 uses a much more traditional sized LCD display that provides it with some of the smallest dimensions available in a thin and light notebook.

Powering the Fujtisu LifeBook S6231 is the Intel Pentium M 735 (1.7GHz) processor. This is one of the more high end processors found in the thin and light notebook segment that should provide good battery life but strong performance. It is matched up with 512MB of PC 2700 DDR memory.

Storage on the LifeBook S6231 is very good. It comes standard with a 4x multiformat DVD burner that allows it to burn and play both CDs and DVDs. Internal storage is handled by fairly standard 60GB hard drive.

As previously mentioned, the S6231 uses a more traditional 13.3" LCD panel. This makes the S6231 have one of the smaller screens in the segment, but it stull performs well. It is matched up with the Intel Extreme 2 integrated graphics that limits its 3D application ability.

Of course, the big advantage of the LifeBook S6231 thanks to the small LCD panel is its reduced size. Its fairly diminutive dimensions just puts it outside of the range of being classified as an ultraportable, but it has much more power. The only real drawback to the LifeBook S6231 is the price. While note extremely high, it is significantly above average for the thin and light segment.
