11/14/06 As is common with most of the thin and light notebooks, the Polywell PolyNote is powered by the new Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 processor. The performance levels are not that much higher than the previous Core Duo, but it does add 64-bit support for the upcoming Windows Vista and slightly improves the battery life. A full gigabyte of PC2-5400 DDR2 memory is included to let it run through most programs without problems.
Storage is fairly standard for the PolyNote V512NC. An 80 GB hard drive is average sized and does provide space for programs and data although it could quickly fill up if lots of digital media files are stored on it. The 8x DVD+/-RW dual layer burner allows the system to both read and record music, movie and data CDs and DVDs.
The big draw to the PolyNote V512NC is definitely its graphics. While the 15.4 wide screen LCD has a typically 1280x800 resolution, its the graphics processor that sets it apart. Many thin and light notebooks go with low end graphics processors, but the PolyNote V512NC comes with a respectable NVIDIA GeForce 7600 Go graphics. This lets the system function very well for PC gaming compared to many other thin and lights and at a very reasonable price.
As with all of its PCs, Polywell does not include any software with the base systems. Users must pay extra for application software that increases the price.
