Guide Review - Polywell PolyNote V516ND Thin And Light Laptop PC
11/10/07 Polywell's PolyNote V516ND is certainly a thin and light laptop that is designed for performance. It starts out with a fairly powerful Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 mobile processor that is above the more common processors. This in and of itself would boost performance but when it is matched with 4GB of PC2-5300 DDR2 memory, this system won't be hitting many slowdowns at all. It comes equipped with the Windows XP operating system that means not all that memory will be available due to the 32-bit memory limitations.
Storage is also quite strong with the PolyNote V516ND. The 200GB hard drive is about average in size for a thin and light model, but it spins at the much faster 7200rpm rate to give it faster reading and writing performance. A dual layer DVD burner allows it to play and record DVDs and CDs.
Graphics are a key feature for the PolyNote V516ND and gamers will certainly be happy. The LCD display fatures a very high 1680x1050 resolution. This can be problematic for some with less than perfect eyesight having to read the small text. This is matched up with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor to let it play even Direct X 10 games at fairly high resolutions. The 512MB of memory for it should help prevent much slow down with higher resolution textures.
The biggest flaw with the PolyNote V516ND system is its peripheral ports. Most thin and light notebooks tend to come with four accessible USB 2.0 ports. For some reason, Polywell has limited the connections to only two that can be quickly used up. At least this can be mitigated with the use of an external USB hub.
All of this adds up to an extremely powerful system that can be used for just about anything someone might need in a portable computer.
