Toshiba Satellite M55-S3291

About.com Rating 3

By Mark Kyrnin, About.com

The Bottom Line
Toshiba's Satellite M55-S3291 doesn't have much to set it apart from other consumer thin and light notebooks, but the large hard drive and Windows XP Professional make this a good business notebook.

Guide Review - Toshiba Satellite M55-S3291

11/18/05 – The Toshiba Satellite M55-S3291 is powered by the Intel Pentium M 750 (1.86GHz) processor that is found in many thin and light notebooks. This processor provides a good mix of performance and power usage. It is matched up with 512MB of PC2700 DDR memory that should let it run most applications without much problem. It would be nice to see it use some faster memory for better performance in memory intensive applications.

Storage is one of the strong points for the M55-S3291. The 100GB hard drive provides plenty of storage space for applications and data. It also has a 5400rpm spin rate that gives it very good performance levels. A 8x DVD+/-RW burner is included for reading or writing of CDs and DVDs.

While Toshiba is pretty well known for its larger screen multimedia notebooks, the M55-S3291 uses a smaller 14” wide screen LCD panel to improve the systems portability. The system does use the integrated Intel GMA900 graphics that limits the systems 3D performance. Those looking to do 3D gaming will need to look elsewhere.

While most systems still ship with the Windows XP Home, Toshiba has opted to include Windows XP Professional with the notebook which is really good considering the price of the notebook. In fact it is one of the lowest cost notebooks available with it making it a good highly portable system for business users.
