Guide Review - Zt Systems Reliant H4000i Thin and Light Notebook

5/19/08 - The Zt Systems Reliant H4000i is sort of a contradiction. It is a made to order system that is ordered directly from the company, but the limited number of features found in the thin and light laptop frame have it fall far behind the competition.

The processor for the Reliant H4000i is still using the Core 2 Duo T7000 series processors with the T7700 being the fastest available. This gives it good overall performance in general applications even when compared to some of the newer but lower rated T8000 and T9000 series CPUs from Intel. The 2GB of memory is a bit on the low side considering many competing systems offer 3 or 4GB now but it allows the system to run smooth enough with the Vista operating system.

Notebook hard drives have dramatically increased in capacity over the years. Even budget systems tend to come with 200 to 250GB of drive space. This makes the largest drive option of 160GB for the Reliant H4000i seem extremely small. This is probably one of the biggest problems with the notebook and something that Zt Systems could easily correct by offering a wider range of larger drives to use in the notebook. At least they include a dual layer DVD burner standard.

Another area of issue is the graphics. Most thin and light systems that cost over a thousand dollars tend to include some form of graphics processor. The Reliant H4000i still uses the Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics. This is very disappointing as even a low end dedicated graphics can boost graphics applications or multimedia significantly.

Overall, the Zt Systems Reliant H4000i just doesn't offer enough to the consumer for the price. There are more flexible options available to the consumers for roughly the same price.
