Guide Review - Hypersonic Avenger AG2 Ultraportable Laptop
9/11/08 - Most people looking at the Hypersonic Avenger AG2 will probably be attracted to it by its very reasonable price tag. There are very few 12-inch laptops that can be found in the sub $1000 price range. Most that are will be lacking a number of features. Hypersonic manages to put together a very capable system, but with some limitations.
Another reason that the Avenger AG2 stands out are the available colors. Most notebooks tend to come in black, white, grey, red or blue. Hypersonic has added to this a very bright yellow color that is their default. It definitely will stand out in the crowd of laptops on the market.
One downside to the Avenger AG2 is its overall size and weight. Many of the 12-inch laptops on the market range from three to three and a half pounds. The Avenger tops out at a hefty found pounds. This puts it in roughly the same weight class as many laptops that have larger 13.3-inch LCD panels that also provide a slightly larger keyboard.
In terms of performance, the Avenger AG2 does quite well. The low cost version comes equipped with the Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 dual core mobile processor. While it isn't the fastest of them or the most energy efficient, it gets the job done. The 2GB of PC2-5300 DDR2 memory let the system run the Windows Vista operating system without any real problems.
The biggest problem with the Avenger AG2 is the battery life. Even with its fairly large dimensions, the system uses a relatively small battery that results it below average run time. Users who will be rely on using it while traveling or away from a power outlet will definitely want to stock up on a spare battery or two to ensure they can use it as long as they require.
