Guide Review - Lenovo 3000 V100
9/7/06 – Lenovo's consumer oriented ultraportable is powered by the Intel Core Duo T2500 mobile processor. This gives the system very strong performance for its size, but it also leads to one of the systems problems of its limited battery life compared to similar notebooks. The full gigabyte of memory included with the 3000 V100 lets it tackle even the most memory intensive applications without slowdowns.
While the ThinkPad X series is geared more towards portability at the sacrifice of storage, the 3000 V100 doesn't skimp on storage. The system comes with a spacious 100GB hard drive that performs very well thanks to its 5,400rpm spin rate. It also has a built-in DVD burner rather than requiring the external docking unit. This makes the 3000 V100 a better choice for those who need the extra storage while traveling.
Since the 3000 V100 is geared more towards consumers, it has a few other features such as the 12.1” wide screen display. This make watching DVD movies easier than the traditional 4:3 aspect ratio. It shares a similar keyboard to the ThinkPad series with an excellent feel, but they removed the trackpoint device that is a beloved feature over the ever shrinking trackpads. Finally, the 3000 V100 comes with a basic set of productivity applications that is often dropped from most ultraportable systems that are more frequently sold to businesses.
